Kioni asks Kalonzo to back Matiang'i for 2027 presidency

Delegates from the Jubilee Party in Kisii and Nyamira Counties are urging Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to throw his weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking during a meeting held at a hotel in Kisii County, where Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni led the endorsement, the delegates—representing all 12 constituencies in the two counties—officially backed Dr. Matiang’i as their preferred presidential candidate.
Despite the elections being two years away, the leaders emphasized the need to start early preparations if they are to mount a serious challenge against President Ruto.
Kioni emphasized the importance of the opposition uniting behind a single candidate for the upcoming general elections, arguing that Matiang’i was the most qualified to take on the challenge.
“Matiang’i left an undeniable mark in every ministry he served,” Kioni stated.
“We don’t need further proof—his achievements in Education, ICT, and Interior Security speak for themselves.”
Janet Komenda, a Nyamira Woman MP hopeful, stressed the need for the opposition to be strategic and vigilant in their campaign preparations.
She cautioned that the road ahead would be tough, citing what she described as President Ruto's calculated political maneuvers, which she believes he is intent on refining.
“We should be very cautious because the person we are dealing with is very cunning and is capable of swaying the ground given a very little chance. We should seal every loophole,” Komenda said
The Party has also launched a membership registration drive, which delegates affirmed will be intensified in the lead-up to the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission.
